Wealthy Theatre corks open the bottles
In conjunction with Art on the Table, the Electric Cheetah and Electric Eel, and Grand Rapids Grub, Wealthy Theatre will host “Blood into Wine,” Thursday, June 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will center around the recently released documentary, “Blood into Wine,” which tells the story of Grand Rapids bottler Maynard James Keenan, and will feature food and wine for attendees.
“The movie documents a bold, innovative approach to sustainable farming: believing a piece of Arizona desert could be made to yield outstanding wine, and marketing that wine not only as an excellent varietal, but a new way of thinking,” said Theatre Director Erin Wilson.
Starting off the event will be a pre-movie wine tasting, led by experts from Art of the Table and Wines of Distinction. Wines will be from Keenan’s Stronghold winery, all of which will be featured in the film. Additionally, Cory DeMint of Electric Cheetah and Electric Eel will provide hors d’oeuvres.
The event will also feature a look into Keenan’s world of music and creativity. His various entities have sold over 30 million records across the globe, and his bands have headlined some of the world’s most well-known music festivals.
Over the past few years, wineries have gained a greater foothold throughout Michigan. Several wineries in Northern Michigan have been applauded for their efforts in bringing the production of wine to the midwest. Wealthy Theatre hopes they can continue this trend, by bringing interest to the world of wine.
“We think it’s positive that people might consider previously non-traditional winemaking areas, when selecting a dinner wine – in the same way Wealthy Theatre has become successful in spotlighting non-traditional artists that patrons might consider as their Friday night out,” said Wilson. “Thinking outside the box is good for consumers and – in this case – farmers who take a chance on a new way of thinking. Good things can happen.”
