Schuler’s offers relaxed lunch setting
One step into the Schuler Books’ Chapbook Cafe, and you’ll notice quite a few people on their laptops, reading magazines, and eating great-looking sandwiches. The local bookstore has specialized in selling books, magazine, and everything else for book lovers since 1982. Besides a large array of specialty books, as well as a used book section, the Chapbook Cafe clearly sets them apart.
Though not overly large, Chapbook Cafe provides a pretty big menu. It’s satisfactory to anyone who’s looking for a healthy, quick bite to eat. In a sense, it’s the Starbucks of delis.
On the recommendations of a few friends, I tried the Orchard Harvest Ham sandwich with a Caesar Salad. While the salad was nothing to go on about, it was a nice entry point to the sandwich.
The Orchard Harvest Ham features baby swiss cheese, honey mustard, and of course, ham. But it also is topped with green, granny smith apples, which provide a light, refreshing taste to the spicy honey mustard. It’s a perfect contrast.
While the sandwich certainly met my expectations, it was a bit spicy with the honey mustard. Other than that though, it was filling and very enjoyable. I do think the prices could be lowered on sandwiches though — most sandwiches run between $7 and $8, and that’s before you add a drink to the mix.
In addition to a great sandwich menu, Chapbook Cafe also offers quesadillas, paninis, soups and salads, fresh pastries and coffee drinks.
Overall, I have to say the experience at Schuler’s was beyond satisfactory. Its relaxed setting provided a perfect opportunity to read, do work, or just chat with friends. And Chapbook Cafe’s lunch options just add to the experience; while I’d like to see prices lowered, the menu options are definitely worth it.
